Minsk . Investigators are investigating the circumstances of a child's death in the water, the Investigative Committee of Belarus told BELTA.
On the evening of June 25, a 9-year-old boy drowned in an artificial reservoir in the village of Magdalin, Kobrin District. According to preliminary information, the schoolboy had invited his friends to go for a swim earlier in the day, but they refused, so the boy went alone. A couple of hours later, his friends found his bicycle and belongings on the shore of the reservoir. The boys immediately reported the boy missing to his older brother. Divers from the local Emergency Situations Department recovered the teenager's body from the water.
An investigative team was working at the scene.
The reservoir in which the student drowned is not intended for swimming. Moreover, the 9-year-old boy did not know how to swim.
The Kobrin District Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation into the incident. Investigators will pay particular attention to the causes and circumstances that led to the student's death.
"This isn't the first accident this summer in which teenagers have drowned in Belarusian waters. Dear
parents , please do not leave your children unattended and monitor their behavior. Be sure to teach them water safety. The Investigative Committee urges citizens to swim only in designated areas and not to combine water recreation with
alcohol consumption," the Investigative Committee added.
