The US and Europe should impose sanctions on Russia before the invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said in an interview with the BBC.

“It seems to me that the response to a hybrid attack could also be hybrid. I am sure that the United States and the United Kingdom, together with European partners, could do more for our defense,” Reznikov said.

According to him, sanctions against Russia should be introduced before, not after, the "attack": the West must show that the invasion will cost the Kremlin dearly. Delay in this matter could lead to a flow of refugees to Europe, Reznikov warned.

He called restrictions on Russian oligarchs from the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the freezing of their accounts as one of the options for effective sanctions.
