October 28, Grodno. In the Grodno region, the number of well-equipped places for swimming may be increased. Yury Valevaty, First Deputy Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, told journalists today, BelTA has learned.

Today, at a meeting of the regional executive committee, they considered the implementation of the requirements of the Presidential Directive No. 1 "On measures to strengthen public security and discipline" in the region. Among the issues under consideration are fire and road safety, industrial injuries, and prevention of deaths on the water. During the meeting, it was noted that, in general, the number of deaths from external causes is decreasing in the region, but there are still problems that require closer attention.

In particular, the number of deaths on the water has increased in the region. In January-September 2021, 48 people died from drowning in the region (for the same period in 2020 - 35). Most of the drowned (96%) rested in places prohibited for swimming. Over 70% of them were under the influence of ALCOHOL .

"Analysis of the situation shows that it is necessary to increase the number of equipped recreation areas, beaches equipped with rescue stations and posts. They should be placed in places where people have historically been accustomed to swimming. It is important to make the rest safe. In some places, it is also worth reviewing the work schedule of OSVOD rescuers, perhaps transfer them to round-the-clock duty," Yury Valevaty said. He also stressed the need to intensify preventive work in this area.

The situation with fires remains in the center of attention. For 9 months of 2021, their number in the region has decreased. At the same time, the loss of life in fire causes concern. The fires have claimed the lives of 46 people since the beginning of the year. In most cases, careless smoking was the cause of the tragedy.

A positive trend is noted in the field of road safety. For 9 months of 2021, the number of accidents in the region decreased by almost 20% (from 294 to 236). The number of deaths and injuries in road accidents has also decreased. From 36 to 21 cases, the number of "drunken" accidents has decreased.

In addition, the region managed to achieve a reduction in industrial injuries, and the number of deaths at work decreased.

"The positive effect is the result of a systematic approach of all business entities and local authorities. At the same time, the work carried out at all levels requires constant improvement. It is important that people themselves understand that many accidents could have been avoided if they had been less careless about issues of their own security," Yury Valevaty summed up.
