March 24, Brest. A meeting of the commission of the Parliamentary Assembly on economic policy of the Union of Belarus and Russia is taking place in Brest today, BelTA has learned.

"The task of our commission is to form a single economic space of the Union State. A good tool for joint work is state programs. They have shown their effectiveness. During the SG, there were about 60 such programs, most of them were successfully implemented. As a rule, these are scientific and technological achievements , which are then implemented in the economies of both countries," said Sergey Mitin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Economic Policy.

He cited as an example the programs thanks to which scientists were able to create a breed of goats with an inserted human gene. Goat's milk can be used as a substitute for women's milk. Now the goal is to promote inventions, to establish the production of drugs based on them. “The Belarusian side has made progress in this. We would like to consult with our colleagues. We are preparing the same amendment to the Russian legislation. The joint legislative space will allow us to make wider use of the inventions that were in the program,” Sergey Mitin explained.

In Brest, the commission's meeting is being held via videoconference. The deputies are considering the development and approval of draft concepts for new programs of the Union State, as well as discussing the results of the work of the Commission on the formation of a single scientific and technological space of the SG. Parliamentarians aim that these programs receive funding and begin to be implemented this year.

Sergei Mitin also noted that large milk processing enterprises operate in the Brest region. A meeting with the management of "Savushkin Product" is planned for a wider integration of Belarusian dairy products into the Russian market.
