U.S. sanctions against Russia are further destabilizing the global economy, which has already suffered from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said in response to a media question. His words are quoted by the press service of the diplomatic mission in Telegram.

According to the diplomatic representative, the logical result that the United States managed to “achieve” is an additional destabilization of the global economy, which is already experiencing hard times in the face of the ongoing consequences of the pandemic. In particular, normal trade and economic cooperation suffers from the American sanctions policy, he believes.

“Financial institutions and international companies, intimidated by US regulators, are afraid to carry out routine operations,” Antonov says.

The United States, EU countries and other countries of the world have been imposing sanctions against Russia since the end of February. Russia in response to their actions introduced retaliatory measures. In particular, Moscow expelled American diplomats and prohibited US diplomatic missions from hiring citizens of Russia and third countries. It also banned Attorney General Merrick Garland, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) head Christopher Wray, US President Joe Biden, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken from entering.

The State Duma believes that the sanctions potential of the West has already been exhausted. This, in particular, was discussed by the chairman of the lower house, Vyacheslav Volodin (after which the EU introduced the seventh package of sanctions, and the United States banned Russian officials from entering). The Russian authorities insist that the sanctions against it were imposed illegally, and argue that such measures harm those who imposed them. In particular, the Foreign Ministry, responding to the European Union, also pointed out that sanctions have a negative impact on various segments of the world economy.
