Emergencies Ministry: About 70 fires occurred in Belarus over the past weekend

January 3, MINSK . No major man-made or natural emergencies were registered in Belarus on New Year's Eve and over the past weekend, the Ministry of Emergency Situations told BELTA .

"On New Year's Eve and over the weekend, the Ministry of Emergency Situations units served in an enhanced mode, including ensuring security at venues for mass events. More than 3,500 rescue workers were on duty every day. From 00:00 on January 1 to 6:00 on January 3, the Ministry of Emergency Situations received 755 messages, 99 of which were about fires or emergencies. The department's units were dispatched 153 times to provide assistance. They saved five people when extinguishing fires. No major man-made or natural emergencies were registered in the republic over the weekend," said Dmitry Sakovich, HEAD of the Republican Center for Management and Response to Emergency Situations.

He also pointed out that in the first days of 2025, 68 fires occurred, in which 14 people died and 9 were injured. "The preliminary causes of the fires are smoking in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication and violation of the rules for the operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment," added Dmitry Sakovich.

The head of the center also emphasized that from January 1 to January 3, 2025, 26 accidents occurred due to violations of the rules for the use of pyrotechnics. "28 people were injured, including 12 children. Nine children were hospitalized, their condition is satisfactory. No fires due to the use of pyrotechnics were registered," he noted.

Dmitry Sakovich also said that during these days, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and OSVOD conducted monitoring in places where people rest on water bodies. No accidents were registered.
