Drunk man in stolen car causes accident near Brest, Investigative Committee reveals details of case

According to the investigation, in the middle of last year, on the 3rd kilometer of the H133 road near Brest, a head-on collision occurred between a Toyota driven by a 43-year-old man and a Volkswagen driven by a 39-year-old man. In addition, there were children aged 2 and 10 in the second foreign car as passengers. As a result of the accident, the 67-year-old passenger of the Toyota received serious bodily injuries, and the children in the second foreign car received injuries of varying severity. Their lives were saved by the fact that they were wearing child restraints.

Investigators found out that the Toyota driver caused the collision in the oncoming lane. He and the passenger were not wearing seat belts. After conducting an examination and forensic medical examination, the 43-year-old man's blood was found to contain 2.05 ppm of ethyl alcohol. It was also established that he was driving a stolen car. Previously, the man was engaged in body repair of this car. After drinking alcohol, he got behind the wheel without the owner's permission to give a ride to a friend. According to the conclusion of the forensic autotechnical examination, the speed of the car before the accident was more than 100 km / h.

Based on the results of the investigation, the 43-year-old man was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code: Part 1 of Article 214 (theft) and Part 4 of Article 317 (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle in a state ofalcohol intoxication , which through negligence resulted in causing grievous bodily harm).
