Kyiv made the Chinese Geely in the list of "sponsors of the war"

Kyiv has blacklisted the Chinese automobile company Geely because of its refusal to withdraw from Russia. Earlier this list also included Raiffeisen Bank International, Auchan Holding and sweets manufacturer Mondelez International.

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) of Ukraine has included the Chinese car manufacturer Geely in the list of "international sponsors of the war." This was reported by the press service of the department in its telegram channel.

The department also emphasized that the leadership of the Chinese company did not condemn the actions of Russia, on the contrary, Geely is rapidly increasing its dealer network and sales in Russia.

The Chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co owns several brands, including Geely Auto, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, London Electric Vehicle Company, Farizon Auto, Caocao Mobility.

As of May 2023, the network of official Geely dealers was represented in 89 Russian cities and consisted of 157 dealerships.

Earlier, NAPC had already announced that the Austrian banking group Raiffeisen Bank International, the French corporation Auchan Holding, the Hungarian OTP bank, the confectionery manufacturer Mondelez International, the Italian company Buzzi Unicem and the Irish Peninsula Petroleum were included in the list of “war sponsors” due to the fact that they continue to do business in Russia. The latter was excluded from the list two months later, explaining this by the fact that Peninsula Petroleum stopped supplying fuel to Russian companies owned by it.

After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine , many countries, including the US and the EU , imposed sanctions against Moscow , and Western companies began to leave the Russian market or suspend production. In response to the departure of companies and a sharp reduction in the range of products, the Russian government allowed the import of sought-after original foreign-made goods into the country and abolished responsibility for the so-called parallel imports . According to the Federal Customs Service, by December the volume of goods imported into the country under this mechanism exceeded $20 billion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his speech at the SPIEF, said that technological sovereignty does not mean the own production of all goods and services: “this is impossible for any country in the world, and it is not necessary, we are not striving for this.” At the same time, he expressed his readiness to work with those Western companies that decide to stay in Russia. “If foreign manufacturers want to return, we do not close the doors for anyone. But we will certainly take into account the specifics of the behavior of some of these partners for the future. Those who have stayed with us, are working and are going to work, we consider domestic producers and will treat them the same way as our own,” the president said.
