The head of the European Commission estimated the timing of the introduction of new sanctions against Belarus

The European Union, together with the United States, is preparing a new package of sanctions against the official Minsk, said the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Sanctions against the Belarusian authorities could be expanded early next week, she said at a press conference after meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The United States, according to her, has also prepared new sanctions against Belarus: they can be introduced in early December.

According to Bloomberg interlocutors, airlines that assist in the transportation of migrants to Belarus, as well as the insurance sector of Belarus, may be under sanctions. In the case of airlines, discussions are still underway as to whether sanctions should be applied to current contracts, or whether they should be limited in the future.

The EU foreign ministers will discuss the expansion of sanctions against Belarus in connection with the situation with migrants on November 15, Andrea Sasse, spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, said earlier. She noted that not only individuals and firms from Belarus, but also individuals and enterprises in third countries can fall under sanctions.
