Members of the European Parliament approved a resolution calling on the EU authorities to impose sanctions against persons involved in the persecution of the international organization Memorial (recognized in Russia as an NGO-foreign agent). The resolution also calls on EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell to impose sanctions under the EU's global human rights sanctions regime on Russian officials involved in the illegal crackdown on Memorial and legal proceedings against the organization and its members. in the message.

The European Parliament condemned "repeated harassment" and attempts by the authorities to shut down Memorial. In the resolution, the parliamentarians called for the immediate removal of all charges against Memorial and for guarantees that the organization can continue to safely carry out "its important work without state interference."

They also called on the EU Delegation in Moscow and the diplomatic missions of the EU countries in Russia to closely monitor the situation and the lawsuits.
