On November 7, the Governor of the Voronezh Region, Alexander Gusev, held a meeting during which the situation regarding African swine fever ( ASF ) and anthrax in the region was discussed.
In mid-October, the ASF pathogen was discovered in the Kalacheevsky district, quarantine was introduced , and restrictions were established in the territory of three districts. Since October 22, the removal of pigs has been carried out at two enterprises, and at the moment it is completed in all outbreaks. Specialists continue to conduct a tour of the farmsteads of settlements falling within the ASF threat zone. Daily laboratory monitoring of ASF continues at all pig farms in the region.
Inspections of pig products are being carried out; 84.4 tons of infected pig products were destroyed at Bobrovsky MEAT Processing Plant LLC in the Kalacheevsky district.
At the moment, unscheduled inspections of several agricultural enterprises are being carried out in the Voronezh, Belgorod and Lipetsk regions at the request of the regional prosecutor's office. Activities aimed at stabilizing the epizootic situation regarding ASF continue.
The governor instructed to update the plan to prevent the spread of ASF in the region.
“In addition to the standard actions that we have already taken, we need a global plan to prevent the spread of ASF in the region. I want to see the preliminary plan in a week. So that we pass it on to product manufacturers so that they look at the sufficiency of the measures. It should be detailed: from activities that need to be done right now, without delay, to large-scale changes that will allow us to keep this situation under control. We need real action,” said Alexander Gusev.
He emphasized the need to introduce separate measures in municipal areas where pig farms are located.
More than 234 thousand susceptible animals were vaccinated against anthrax .
- Including, in private household plots and peasant farms of the region, the newly identified livestock exceeded 27 thousand heads of cattle . Business entities purchased 180 thousand doses of anthrax vaccine for revaccination of cattle livestock , reported Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government Viktor Logvinov.
After the inspection, it became known that the unauthorized import of infected animals likely became the source of anthrax in the region.
