On Sakhalin, local producers are strengthening the region’s food independence

Today, local producers are actively increasing egg production , which helps reduce dependence on supplies from the mainland and strengthen the food independence of the island region. Also, the population's need for this product is additionally covered by supplies from the mainland.
With the support of the Governor and the Government of the Sakhalin Region, agricultural producers are introducing modern technologies and expanding the range of products, which allows for a stable supply of high-quality products to the population. This contributes to the development of the local economy and creates a solid foundation for a sustainable future for the region.
Undoubtedly, the main share of food egg production in the region is still occupied by a large agricultural producer - JSC "Ostrovnaya Poultry Farm". The company continues to increase egg production and the number of laying hens. Now the poultry farm produces more than 250 thousand eggs per day, and the number of laying hens exceeds 320 thousand heads.
"Small farms also make a significant contribution to the self-sufficiency of the region in food eggs. Over the past period of the current year, farms and private subsidiary farms have produced about 5 million eggs. According to our forecasts, by the end of the year, production by small farms will increase by 3% compared to 2024 and exceed 23 million eggs," said Pavel Medov, HEAD of the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of the Sakhalin Region.
In addition, eggs are supplied to the domestic market by wholesale entrepreneurs from different regions of the country. Thus, since the beginning of the year, more than 24 million eggs have been imported to Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. This is 10 million less than the same period last year, which is due to an increase in domestic production and a decrease in dependence on external supplies.
it is worth noting that the development of local production is becoming an important factor in strengthening the region's food security and contributes to the creation of a sustainable food system in the face of modern challenges.
