The results of the epidemic of infectious nodular dermatitis (LUD) were commented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food - Deputy Prime Minister of Buryatia Galsan Dareev in an interview on the Vostok-Teleinform website. “Strictly speaking, the saying “Fear has big eyes” can be applied to this situation. We disposed of 2,200 heads of cattle, which is less than half a percent, in the volumes of Buryatia, this is not much, within the limits of natural loss. This decline did not affect the livestock and meat production - yes, many speculators in the market took advantage of the situation and raised prices, but the wholesale price did not change much, only the retail one. Here you can draw an analogy with sugar - remember, in the spring there was a wild hype for it, everyone rushed to buy it, the price climbed up. So it’s the same with meat - there was a demand - they raised prices, ”he said.

According to him, the number of livestock in Buryatia as a whole has not decreased, but increased. Today, there are 374 thousand heads of cattle in the republic, in 2021 there were 336 thousand heads. There were 144,000 pigs, almost 340,000 sheep, and 52,000 horses. “If we talk about offspring, then we have 110 thousand heads of cattle calves this year, the business yield is 75%; for lambs, the yield is 86% - 162 thousand heads were born; 14.5 thousand foals, that is, the growth continues, it is good,” Dareev notes.

Compensation for the fallen and destroyed livestock has been paid in full. A total of 74.5 million rubles were received by 200 recipients - these are 5 farms, the rest - private household plots. “Basically, it must be said, the “personalists” suffered. The money was paid to people, but I must say that this was the first and only time, because now there is a mandatory vaccination for ITCH. I want to say here that in some areas the owners hide their livestock, do not register it, and this is wrong in all respects. There are no prerequisites, no one will take away the livestock, there is no need to pay a tax on it, such concealment only creates problems in calculating pastures, the amount of vaccine, and so on. We are doing a great job of vaccinating livestock throughout Buryatia and I would like to encourage people to vaccinate livestock,” said Dareev.

If we talk about the ways of importing LSD in Buryatia, then, according to the results of the investigation, it was established that the disease entered Buryatia through the bedding that illegal cattle trucks threw out in Buryatia.

Livestock trucks bring animals to Kazakhstan not only from Buryatia, many from where, and I don’t want to talk about other regions and countries now, but it’s obvious that there was a problem somewhere and the infection was brought from there. But in Nizhnyaya Ivolga, the infection was “brought in with their feet” - someone visited the infected territory, most likely in Burduny or Bilyutai, and then brought it to Ivolga,” Dareev noted.
