US triples frozen beef exports to China

Frozen beef from the US has a significant share of the Chinese market, fueled by tensions between Canberra and Beijing. According to a report presented by the South CHINA Morning Post, Australia's frozen beef exports to China have been steadily declining since April this year.

In May, $90 million worth of frozen beef was shipped from the US to China, compared to $47 million from Australia, according to the Morning Post. By July, exports from the US had reached $107 million, while shipments from Australia had fallen to $35 million.

Trade data show that US frozen beef exports to China between April and July this year were 8 to 18 times higher than in the corresponding months last year. Overall, U.S. beef exports to China increased by more than 1,000% year-over-year in both volume (81,001 tons) and value ($622.5 million) in the first half of the year, thanks to improved market access under Phase One of the Economic and Trade Agreement.
