Power outage kills over 4,000 chickens at Ostrovnaya poultry farm

After a sudden power outage in most of the Sakhalin region, 4,070 chickens died at the Ostrovnaya poultry farm - approximately 0.5% of the population.

The accident at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya high-voltage substation, which led to a blackout, occurred on Tuesday, April 6 at 17.34. After a massive power outage at the poultry farm, the technological equipment stopped working, the fans stopped. Failure of the ventilation system led to the death of the bird from heat stroke and asphyxia.

Now the enterprise calculates the secondary damage from the loss of part of the livestock. it is known that the poultry farm has a backup power supply system. Why it was not involved at the time of the accident, experts are establishing. 

Until the end of the internal audit, the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Trade cannot say how the force majeure situation will affect the supply of Sakhalin residents with eggs and poultry MEAT. DIRECTOR of the poultry farm Sergey Dobrelya promises that the eggs will go on sale in accordance with the technological map, but the sales department told the agency correspondent that at the moment the goods are not available.
