Deputies demanded to close the Merci Agro Sakhalin pig farm

General DIRECTOR of Mercy Agro Sakhalin JSC Konstantin Gladkov was summoned to a meeting of the Sakhalin Regional Duma to demand the closure of the pig-breeding complex without hesitation in expressions.

The fact is that the enterprise, in which more than 2 billion rubles from the regional budget and 230 million investments have been invested, systematically violates environmental standards.

The population of the Mercy Agro Sakhalin pig farm is 28,000, but the company, registered in 2013, has not implemented the biological waste disposal technology to this day. Moreover, the complex was built without treatment facilities and put into operation without a permit.

The contents of the overflowing manure lagoons exude a stench and flow into the Sigovka River, which flows into the Aniva Bay. Information about the pollution of water bodies, confirmed by the Ministry of Ecology, was transferred to Rosprirodnadzor, however, the general director of Mercy Agro Sakhalin JSC refuses to recognize a local environmental disaster. After listening to the claims, Gladkov said that the enterprise would continue to work and promised to solve the problem of discharge, but did not name any specific measures to protect the environment from fecal effluents.
