January 2, Minsk. The Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs is planning to introduce a system of food stamps for low-income citizens. The cards will be credited with certain amounts of money with which they can buy food of their choice. This is reported with reference to the head of the crisis preparedness department of the ministry, Thea Varrak.

Now help to the poor is provided through the Food Bank, which collects unsold products in stores. Also, assistance to the bank through donations comes from individuals. Products are distributed by social workers and charities. Often, people received food parcels that contained food they didn't need.

Food cards for 30 euros will be distributed once a quarter. The same eligibility criteria will apply to those eligible for food assistance. The cards will be issued to recipients of subsistence benefits who applied for it, recipients of compensation from local government and a number of other persons.

With this card, you can buy food and basic necessities, such as hygiene products. It is forbidden to buy tobacco and alcohol products, as well as lottery tickets.
