This is due to the fact that during the restrictions due to covid-19 , people have become more likely to cook at home. The United States spent the most on groceries , followed by Western Europe, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia. The study was conducted by Kantar.
Beverages, dairy products and groceries showed the largest growth, with sales of canned food up 26%, SUGAR and sweeteners up 15%, and herbs and seasonings up 13%.
ALCOHOL sales in Western Europe and Latin America grew by 25% and 20% respectively. In Asia, they fell by 10%.
Growth was shown by e-commerce, it accounts for 6.5% of global food sales. Supermarkets have become more popular in the US, and discounters have become more popular in Eastern Europe.
