January 31, MINSK. The Japanese government is not currently considering declaring a state of emergency (ES) due to the increase in the number of new cases of CORONAVIRUS infection across the country. This was announced to journalists by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, TASS reports.

The HEAD of the Japanese government today visited a special booster vaccination site set up in Tokyo by the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Answering a question from a journalist, he stressed that the decision to introduce a state of emergency will be made on the basis of the further development of the situation with coronavirus in the country.

In Japan last week, the record for the daily increase in new cases of coronavirus infection was updated several times. Meanwhile, mortality and the increase in the number of patients in serious condition remain at a low level. Local experts and authorities directly attribute this to the high level of vaccination in the country: 99.7 million people (78.7% of the population) have already been vaccinated with two doses. So far, only 3.4 million people (about 2.7% of the population) have been vaccinated with the booster dose.

To combat the infection, the Japanese government placed a total of 34 out of 47 local prefectures, including the Greater Tokyo Area, under the enhanced measures against the spread of the new coronavirus since January 27. The introduced measures provide for a reduction in the opening hours of public catering and tightening the conditions for the sale of ALCOHOL there. Some public institutions are closing, such as the Tokyo Zoo. The scale of public events may also be limited. At the same time, the introduction of codes, passes and other measures of this kind in the country is still not envisaged.
