The reduction in the quarantine period for CORONAVIRUS infection is due to the spread of the omicron strain, Denis Protsenko, chief physician of hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka, said in an interview with Tina Kandelaki on RTVI.

According to Protsenko, when infected with alpha and delta variants of the coronavirus, the incubation period was 7-9 days, while with omicron this period was reduced to 2-3 days. Also, the period of the course of the disease was halved.

“If earlier the disease itself proceeded within 14–18 days, <...> now the incubation period has been reduced. The period of illness has been shortened. Accordingly, the quarantine period has been shortened. Twice - it seems to me that everything is logical here, ”said Protsenko.
