The Kaliningrad region is one hundred percent provided with whole milk and potatoes and for the first time has reached full self-sufficiency in meat

Self-sufficiency in table eggs increased to 90%, and to 88% in highly processed dairy products. Provision with vegetables and fruits - 68% and 50% respectively.
Such data during the operational meeting of the regional government was announced by the deputy chairman of the government of the region - Minister of Agriculture Natalia Shevtsova.
According to her, the region continues to increase the volume of production in animal husbandry. Thus, milk production in farms of all categories in 2021 increased by 9% and amounted to 229 thousand tons. At the same time, the average milk yield per cow in the agricultural organizations of the region reached a maximum of 9,068 kg. Production of food eggs increased by 14% and exceeded 297 million pieces. The volume of production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight increased by 3% and amounted to more than 121.5 thousand tons.
Particular attention in the region is paid to the development of livestock breeding, as an important factor in increasing productivity and quality. Since 2016, the breeding farms of the region, for the first time in the post-Soviet period, resumed the supply of breeding products to other regions of Russia, and in 2021 they began exporting. Holstein heifers have been exported to Armenia, the high genetic potential of these animals makes it possible to obtain more than 9 thousand kg of milk from a cow following the results of the first lactation.
The crop production of the region has entered a new stage of intensification, thanks to which the Kaliningrad region, which is part of the zone of risky farming, has an effective return at the level of the black earth zone. The Amber Territory continues to be the leader in the production and yield of oilseeds and one of the key ones in terms of the yield of cereals and legumes.
In the food industry, turnover increased by 24% in 2021, reaching 253 billion rubles. An important factor in the development of the food industry was the growth of production capacities. Otechestvenny Product (Cherkizovo Group) and Miratorg Zapad LLC (Agricultural Holding Miratorg) have completed modernization and expansion of facilities for the production of semi-finished meat products. Atlantis launched the first stage of a plant for the production of frozen semi-finished chicken products with a capacity of 22 thousand tons per year. The company's plans for 2022 include the commissioning of the second stage of the plant with an additional capacity of 36,000 tons per year.
“The multiplier effect of ongoing projects in the food industry makes it possible to increase the volume of agricultural production,” said Natalia Shevtsova.
