Brazil's cattle production to fall 4% in 2024

 Slaughter is projected to increase by 7% in 2023 and 2% in 2024. The industry is reporting an increase in cow slaughter, which should impact calf births in 2024.

Animal diseases are not expected to become a problem in 2023 or 2024. The Post projects live cattle exports to be 375,000 HEAD of cattle in 2023 and 455,000 head of cattle in 2024. In both 2023 and 2024, Post predicts that imports will remain minimal and will focus on genetic improvement of the herd.

The USDA report projects beef production in 2023 to be 11.16 million metric tons carcass weight equivalent (CWE), up 8% from 2022.

In 2024, USDA projects beef production to be 11.38 million tons CWE, an increase of 2%.

Post projects beef consumption to be 7.86 million CWE tons in 2023 and 8.04 million CWE tons in 2024. These forecasts are based on increased availability of beef in the domestic market, driven by increased slaughter rates and an improving economic scenario.

Brazil is projected to remain the world's largest beef exporter, exporting 3.35 million tons in 2023 and 3.40 million tons in 2024, according to the report . Exports will account for 30% of production. This forecast takes into account rising production, strong external demand for beef and competitors facing production problems. The Post projects beef imports for 2023 to be 57 thousand metric tons and 60 thousand metric tons in 2024.
