Epizootic security in France: challenges and solutions

Current threats

The epizootic situation in Europe has significantly worsened in recent years. In particular, African swine fever has become a serious problem for many countries, including France’s neighbours Romania, Poland and Germany. Given France’s geographical location and its open borders with other countries, the risk of new diseases entering the country increases many times over. Viral infections such as bird flu and other exotic diseases are becoming increasingly common and are a serious concern.

Anthropogenic factors

One of the key factors contributing to the spread of infections is the active movement of people. Population migration, especially from countries with a low level of epizootic security, creates additional risks. Migrants often carry food products with them , which can be a source of infections. This is especially true in the context of the European Union, where the flow of migrants from Africa, East and Southeast Asia, as well as from Ukraine, has increased significantly. Such movements require special control and monitoring.

Measures to prevent epidemics

France seeks not only to combat existing epidemics, but also to prevent possible outbreaks of new diseases. To this end, comprehensive strategies are being developed, including:

1. Tightening border controls: Introducing strict measures to check food and animals crossing the country’s borders.

2. Educational programmes: Conducting information campaigns for farmers and the public on the importance of complying with sanitary norms and rules.

3. Scientific research: Increasing funding for scientific research in veterinary medicine and epidemiology to develop new methods for diagnosing and treating diseases.

4. Cooperation with international organisations: Actively interacting with the World Organisation for Animal HEALTH (OIE) and other international bodies to exchange information and best practices.

5. Monitoring and prevention: Creating an early warning system for disease outbreaks that will allow a prompt response to threats.

France is at the forefront of the fight against threats posed by animal diseases. Epizootic safety requires an integrated approach, covering both domestic measures and international cooperation. Only by working together can we minimise the risks and protect both animal and public health . it is important to remember that the fight against infections is not only the task of the state, but also the responsibility of every citizen.
