Winter rapeseed is a crop that is a good predecessor for all grains, withstands even cold winters and is not demanding on the soil. These qualities were appreciated by the farmers of the Stavropol region. In the Krasnogvardeisky district, more than 11 thousand hectares of sown area are annually allocated for rapeseed. The area sown with winter rapeseed largely depends on the amount of precipitation in the summer-autumn period, since rapeseed, like all brassicas, is moisture-loving. Moisture supply is the main limiting factor, because during the growing season, rapeseed requires from 600 to 800 mm of precipitation to form a high yield .

“This year, the weather conditions were extremely unfavorable: at the time of sowing (late August - early September), the moisture reserve in the soil was minimal, the lack of heavy rainfall for several months did not allow many agricultural producers to start sowing,” said the chief agronomist of the Krasnogvardeisky district department of the Stavropol branch of the Rosselkhozcenter Natalya Shiryaeva. - Sowing into “dry” land is a deliberate risk of losses, therefore, out of over 14 thousand hectares planned for this year, only 4 thousand hectares were sown, a quarter of them (one thousand hectares) in irrigated areas. Specialists of the Krasnogvardeisky district department of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" are monitoring as part of the state task, the winter rapeseed crops under irrigation are in good physiological condition and are in the right phase to overwinter. These crops are significantly superior to crops without irrigation, where only single shoots have so far been observed. Currently, herbicide treatments against weeds have already been carried out on an area of 311 hectares.

As the acting HEAD of the branch, Olga Kuznetsova, noted, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory, sown areas with irrigation are increasing annually, which makes it possible for many enterprises to provide water supplies to fields lacking moisture and to increase its reserves in the root layer of the soil in order to increase soil fertility . And this, in turn, leads to increased productivity and improved quality of agricultural products.
