Sberbank ruled out the impact of EU sanctions on work inside Russia

The new EU sanctions against Sberbank will not affect its activities within RUSSIA, the services will operate as usual, RBC was told in the press service of the bank.

“The new sanctions will not affect the work of the bank within the country. Sberbank is operating normally, taking into account the restrictions already in place, previously introduced,” the bank noted.

On the eve of the European Union tightened sanctions against Sberbank. REUTERS, citing the draft document, wrote that it included the bank's blacklisting of individuals and companies supporting Russia's actions in Ukraine.

An unnamed European official explained to the agency that blacklisting Sberbank means freezing its assets in the West and completely banning transactions. An exception is made for financial transactions in the trade of food and fertilizers.

Sanctions against Sberbank have been in effect before. In June, the EU disconnected the credit institution from the SWIFT interbank data exchange system. In February, the United States imposed sanctions against Sberbank . The restrictions affected the operation of correspondent accounts in the country. All American financial institutions were ordered to close any Sberbank correspondent accounts within 30 days. They then had to start rejecting any transactions involving the bank or its subsidiaries.

In April, Washington imposed new US sanctions against Sberbank, which included freezing its assets and banning American citizens from doing business with it. Counterparties were ordered to complete all relations with Sberbank by April 13. The bank then replied that the sanctions would not affect the service of the Russians in any way, since "the system has already adapted to the previously introduced restrictions."
