EU ambassadors have agreed on the 13th package of sanctions against Russia, the Belgian representation in the Council of the European Union reports on its page in X.

“This package is one of the broadest approved by the EU. it will undergo a written procedure and will be officially approved on February 24,” the representative office clarified.

BLOOMBERG, citing documents with proposals for the new package, wrote that 55 companies and 60 people from Russia that are associated with the production of weapons or supplies of key technologies and electronic components to Russian defense industry enterprises will be subject to the new restrictions. Also, according to the agency, a number of officials may be added to the sanctions list - in particular, a former employee of the presidential security service and the current governor of the Tula region, Colonel General Alexei Dyumin.

In early February, Reuters, citing European diplomats, reported that the 13th package would include “hundreds of legal entities and individuals,” but without any “big names [of companies].” Today, agency sources clarified that the sanctions package includes about 200 companies and individuals, but it does not include new industry measures.

Since 2022, the EU has already introduced 12 packages of sanctions against Russia, the last one was adopted in December. It included, among other things, restrictions on the import of non-industrial diamonds that were produced or processed in Russia. In addition, EXPORT restrictions were introduced on chemicals, lithium batteries, thermostats, DC motors and servo motors for drones, and import restrictions on cast iron, copper and aluminum wire.

At the same time, Brussels added 29 legal entities to the sanctions list for “direct support of the Russian military-industrial complex.” “They will be subject to more stringent export restrictions in relation to dual-use goods and technologies, as well as goods and technologies that can contribute to the technological improvement of the Russian defense and security sector,” the European Council said in a statement.
