Russian telecommunications and it companies are showing interest in acquiring Sberbank's subsidiary SberDevices (develops TV set-top boxes, smart speakers, TVs, socket bulbs), while Sber plans to focus on the development of its core business, unnamed sources told Kommersant.
“The bank will formally withdraw from everything non-core, so the development of the range of smart and other consumer devices is curtailing,” one of the interlocutors of the publication said.
Sberbank renamed SberDevices to SalyutDevices, according to the SPARK system, newspaper sources attribute this decision to the restriction of the company's work under international sanctions. According to them, SberDevices has lost the opportunity to "purchase foreign IT solutions in the required volume." In this regard, “employees are already starting to leave SberDevices,” notes one of the interlocutors of the publication.
Sber, however, named SberDevices and SberTech as key areas in which investments continue. The press service of the bank emphasized that it is only about renaming the legal entity, and this is due to "expanding the strategy of the product portfolio of the Salyut voice assistant through B2B solutions."
The possible exit of Sberbank from non-core assets may be associated not only with sanctions, but also with the optimization of investments, said Denis Kuskov, HEAD of TelecomDaily. He pointed out that the key business area of the company is still the banking sector, in connection with which, in the current conditions, Sber "decided to focus on the main and most profitable segment - fintech."

In late February and early March, the US and UK authorities imposed sanctions against Sberbank. Washington has added the bank to the CAPTA list, which implies restrictions on correspondent accounts in the United States, all American financial institutions have become required to reject any transactions involving Sberbank or its subsidiaries. The bank then called the work of all systems regular. In April, the United States imposed blocking sanctions against Sberbank, and it was included in the SDN list. Sberbank has been disconnected from SWIFT since June.
