What will happen to the key rate
The Board of Directors of the Bank of RUSSIA on Friday, December 17, will again raise the key rate - this time by 1 percentage point, from 7.5 to 8.5%, follows from the BLOOMBERG consensus forecast and the expectations of analysts surveyed by RBC. If their prediction comes true, then this increase will be the seventh in a row since March 2021.
1 p.p. - the maximum step taken by the Central Bank in the current cycle of tightening monetary policy that began in the spring. The rate has already been raised by 1 p.p. in July, and then such a decision was the most radical for the regulator since the crisis of late 2014. Some analysts do not exclude that this increase will not be the last and the regulator will continue to tighten policy in 2022. By raising the rate, the Central Bank is trying to curb rising inflation. At the end of November, inflation updated a six-year record, reaching 8.4%, the highest since January 2016. As explained in the Ministry of Economic Development, a significant contribution to the November crackdown in prices was made by sharply risen in price services, which had previously lagged behind the prices of food and non-food products in terms of growth rates.Risks in 2022
The majority of economic analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expect a strong recovery in the global economy in 2022, but there are a number of factors that could hinder economic growth.
