
The Russian division of the French Auchan closed 17 supermarkets in January-June 2021, Elo Group (formerly called Auchan Holding) said in its reporting for the first half of the year. As of June 30, 2021, as indicated in the statements of the parent company, the network in Russia consisted of 238 outlets, of which 95 were ordinary hypermarkets and hypermarkets of the smaller Auchan City urban format, 143 were supermarkets.
A year earlier, at the end of June 2020, the retailer in Russia operated 274 outlets: 62 hypermarkets and 212 supermarkets. Thus, over 12 months the number of supermarkets decreased by 32.5% (some of them could be repositioned as Auchan City).

Elo Group does not provide financial results for the Russian division, however, in its reporting it indicates that in Central and Eastern Europe revenue grew by 3%, to €14.8 billion, including due to very strong performance in Russia. Like-for-like sales in Russia grew by 3% year-on-year, EBITDA increased by 66% and the share of online sales almost tripled, accounting for 4% of the retailer's local revenue.
