
Criollo horse sales have shown significant momentum, especially in the fall. According to data collected by journalist Juan Rosas of the Tabaré radio station, 546 horses were sold in the first six months of 2025, generating a total revenue of US $1,537,020 . This figure was supplemented by the sale of five embryos for US$31,500 and 55 reproductive services for a total of US$23,420.
The bulk of the offering was made up of 249 mares, representing 41% of the total sold, with an average price of $3,228 per HEAD, followed by 128 fillies (21%) with an average price of $2,678 and 114 broodmares selling for an average price of $2,354.
Neutered males, stallions, foals and other less popular categories were also sold to close out the semester. The average price for embryos was $6,300 and the average price for reproductive services was $426.
EXPORT to five destinations
Ninety-five percent of sales were domestic, but there were also exports to five countries abroad. Brazil purchased 11 animals at an average price of US$3,125, followed by Paraguay with 8 animals (US$4,058), Argentina with 6 (US$5,835), the United States with 3 (US$4,320) and Europe with 2 animals, which achieved the highest average price of US$9,240 per animal .
The survey also allows us to identify the colour preferences of the Criollo horses purchased by breeders. 16.8% were grey, 12.7% chestnut, 8.6% wolf, 8.3% bay and 7.8% chestnut.
Compared to the same period in 2024 , 40 more horses were sold and the average price increased by 8.6%, confirming the trend of steady growth in the Criollo horse market in both volume and value.
