More than 200 heifers and heifers replenished the livestock of EkoNiva's organic project

The Savinskaya Niva farm, located in the Kaluga region, received 108 heifers, 115 heifers and 6 Simmental bulls. This will allow in the future to increase MILK yield on an organic farm by one and a half times.

The animals arrived at the farm at the end of July from EkoNiva farms with traditional production, and after the move, they must be quarantined for a month. They have already been switched to organic food, which means the beginning of the conversion period, which will last six months. During this time, new cattle will be kept separate from the main herd and adapted to the natural conditions of organic farming. Animals will freely graze on natural and cultivated pastures and eat feed grown in Savinskaya Niva.

In 2022, 139 heifers replenished the livestock of the organic project, which made it possible to increase milk yield by 35% at the end of the conversion period. At the moment, the farm contains 350 dairy cows, on average they allow you to get about 4.5 tons of organic milk per day.

“The calving period is expected after the conversion period. The born calves will be fed with organic milk. We predict that the daily gross milk yield will increase by 40–60%, that is, the farm will be able to receive 6–7 tons of milk daily,” says Valery Gushchin, DIRECTOR of Savinskaya Niva.

Organic raw milk is sent from the farm to the MosMedynagroprom dairy plant in the Kaluga Region, which has been certified for the production of EkoNiva Organic drinking milk. An increase in livestock will allow increasing the production of this product line. The holding's specialists note the ever-growing interest of consumers in organic products in recent years. For example, the joint program of EkoNiva and Stars Coffee "Organic Summer" was very positively received by visitors to coffee shops. Until the end of August, all drinks at Stars Coffee establishments are prepared with EkoNiva Organic ultra-pasteurized organic milk with a fat content of 3.2%. Stable demand for EkoNiva Organic products is also observed in the retail sales segment.

In addition to milk production, Savinskaya Niva specializes in organic beef cattle breeding and crop production. Compliance with the standards of organic agriculture is annually confirmed by a certificate from the Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo).
