The Danish Agricultural Agency has announced that the modernization period for piggeries and barns will be extended by one year. This means that projects that are underway but not completed will have an additional 12 months to complete.
From 2020 to 2030, 40% of all finishing pig barns in Denmark will have to be renovated to maintain current supplies to slaughterhouses. In addition, the projects improve animal welfare, reduce ammonia emissions and improve the efficiency of pig farms.
The covid-19 pandemic , followed by the Ukraine crisis , resulted in many farmers being unable to complete their projects. The industry brought this to the attention of the authorities and this is one of the reasons why the deadline was extended.
