The Turkish authorities have distributed among companies a list of goods whose EXPORT to RUSSIA is prohibited, REUTERS reports citing the HEAD of the Istanbul Association of Exporters of Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals, Cetin Tekdelioglu.
The ban came into force on March 1, Tekdelioglu specified. The fact that Ankara banned the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia was confirmed to the agency by two more unnamed sources.
In addition, the EU representative told the agency that Turkey gave the European Commission verbal guarantees that from the beginning of March, goods subject to European, American or British sanctions, or those subject to export control measures, will not be sent to Russia.
On March 9, Kommersant FM radio reported that Turkey had stopped the transit of goods subject to sanctions, citing market participants. The Russian Embassy in Turkey the next day told RBC that, together with the trade mission, they were investigating the "circumstances and background" of this situation.
In 2022, trade between the countries grew by one and a half times compared to a year earlier, to $9.3 billion (was $5.8 billion). Against this background, the West was looking for ways to put pressure on Turkey to comply with sanctions against Russia, the agency writes.
In February, Reuters reported that the US had warned Turkish and UAE authorities that their economic and financial ties with Russia were hindering efforts to put pressure on Moscow.

The West is also trying to enforce restrictions against Russia in the aviation industry. At the end of January, The Wall Street Journal wrote that Washington was trying to influence Ankara to stop flights of American-made aircraft belonging to Russian airlines to and from Turkey.
In early February, Havaş, the country's largest airport ground handler, warned of risks in servicing more than 170 imported aircraft from Russian companies on the US Department of Commerce list, which are prohibited from servicing abroad as part of export controls.
In March, as RBC's source reported, one of the refueling companies in Turkey sent an e-mail message refusing to refuel Russian aircraft from the list of the US Ministry of Commerce.
