Ukraine for the first time proposed to introduce large-scale sanctions against Iran

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposed to the National Security Council (NSDC) to impose large-scale sanctions against Iran. This is stated on the website of the government of the country.

“We are launching sectoral sanctions against Iran. The previous restrictions imposed by Ukraine and our partners on individuals and companies directly involved in the supply of weapons to RUSSIA, unfortunately, were not taken as a serious warning,” said Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.

The government proposed imposing sanctions for a period of 50 years. They include in particular:

preventing the transfer of technology and intellectual property rights to Iranian residents; prohibition to invest in favor of Iran or residents of the country; stopping the service of electronic means of payment to Iranians; restriction of trade operations with military and dual-use goods with residents of the republic.

Earlier , Ukraine imposed sanctions against high-ranking Iranian military personnel. The sanctions list includes the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Bagheri Mohammad Hossein, the commander of the UAV of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Said Aghajani, and the HEAD of the research organization of the IRGC Abdollah Mehrabi.

In March, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that the country does not supply weapons to "one or the other side" of the conflict. Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly rejected versions of the supply of weapons to Russia, in particular, Iranian drones for their use in the military operation in Ukraine .

In December 2022, US Deputy Permanent Representative Robert Wood accused the leadership of the UN Security Council of failing to organize an investigation into the possible supply of Iranian drones to Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western countries have not provided evidence of such supplies.

In early November, the Iranian Foreign Ministry admitted that it had handed over a batch of drones to Russia, but before the start of the military operation. In October, the European Union imposed sanctions on Iran's Shahed Aviation Industries, which makes drones.
