Rosatom rejected the impact of sanctions on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's accession to sanctions against Russian ships, as a result of which 69 ships from RUSSIA are banned from entering the ports of the country, will not affect the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant, in particular the delivery of goods, Rosatom state corporation told RBC.

“The construction of the nuclear power plant continues in accordance with the current schedule. <...> As for the supply of equipment for nuclear power plants, we have an isolated case when a logistics company supplying cargo to Bangladesh faced a restriction when entering the port,” the corporation said.

They noted that an alternative method of delivering goods had already been found. In addition, the sanctions did not affect the timing of the construction of the station, Rosatom added, since the process was "quickly adjusted."

The fact that Bangladesh has joined the US and EU sanctions against Russian ships was reported by the bdnews24 portal, citing representatives of the shipping industry. According to him, the country's government sent a notification about this to the relevant ministries, departments, ports, shipping services and international organizations.

The ban applies to a wide range of vessels, including oil tankers and cargo ships operated by seven companies, the portal notes.

The material also says that recently a cargo from Russia transporting materials for the construction of a nuclear power plant was prohibited from crossing the Bangladesh sea border due to "diplomatic pressure from the United States." The ship tried to dock in the Indian port of Haldia to deliver its cargo, but was refused there too. The ship returned to Russia with cargo.
