The company also plans to create hiking trails in its vineyards and build a new winery. This was told by the co-owner of Russian Terroir LLC Sergey Galitsky Jr.
As RBC Krasnodar reported, billionaire Sergei Galitsky started producing wine back in 2016, when he registered Russian Terroir LLC. The co-owner is the brother of the businessman's wife - his full namesake.
The first products were presented in November 2019.
"Russian Terroir" produces wine under the brand name "Galitsky&Galitsky". He also owns the trademarks Cosaque, Ballet Blanc ("White Ballet") and Le General Hiver ("General Winter"). In addition, applications have been submitted for the Krasnaya Gorka and Montagne Russe (Russian Mountain) brands. The company is trying to get the registration of the mark La Comete Russe (“Russian Comet”) through the COURT.
Russian Terroir produces single-varietal still wines from Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, as well as blends. According to Sergei Galitsky, Jr., the line will be expanded in the near future.
“These are not just new vintages. These are fundamentally new stories - sparkling wines, ice wine and nebbiolo. This is the near future: ice wine, I think, will be this year, sparkling - at the beginning of next year and a year and a half - nebbiolo, ”he shared in an interview posted on the winery’s TELEGRAM channel.
Ice wine or ice wine is a dessert wine made from naturally frozen grapes on the vine.
Nebbiolo is a technical Italian grape variety used for the production of red wines.
"Russian Terroir" owns 68 hectares of vineyards in the foothills of the Caucasus on the border of the "Krasnaya Gorka" nature reserve near the Black Sea. At present, access to outsiders is closed, but in the future the winery plans to create hiking trails for a limited number of visitors.
“We are surrounded by a natural state reserve, there are rare flora and fauna around us, so our attitude towards nature should be as careful as possible. I would like to give people exactly this feeling - unity with nature, ”explained the owner of the company.
Production is located in the village of Gostagaevskaya next to the vineyards, but Russian Terroir is considering options for building a new winery.
“Now it is not an architectural form that is interesting to visit from the point of view of aesthetics, but a place where we create wine. Are there any plans to build a winery directly on the vineyards? There is. Moreover, its renders already exist. But there are still many questions to be answered, and, above all, whether we have taken everything into account in order to maintain the natural balance and ecosystem,” said Sergey Galitsky Jr.
According to SPARK, the owner of FC Krasnodar Sergey Galitsky owns 51% of Russian Terroir LLC. Another 49% belongs to Sergei Galitsky Jr., the brother of the businessman's wife. In 2021, the company's revenue amounted to 27.2 million rubles, the net loss reached 42.8 million rubles.
