Rospotrebnadzor did not note a strong increase in the incidence of COVID-19

The number of infections is growing due to new substrains, but not as fast as with the appearance of the original version of "omicron", said the deputy DIRECTOR of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology. The expert thinks

A rapid increase in the incidence of covid-19 , as in January when changing "delta" to "omicron", is not observed in RUSSIA, said Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor. According to her, some foreign scientists attribute this to the fact that those who recovered from the omicron strain retained effective antibodies from new sub-variants.

However, the number of cases of infection is growing, as the omicron BA.4 / BA.5 and BA.2.75 substrains are more actively transmitted from person to person, the specialist explained. The share of the first of them in this strain was 75%. And the strain BA.2.75 (“centaur”) in Russia has so far been officially diagnosed in only seven people.

An increase in the number of hospitalizations Pshenichnaya considered unlikely, since the course of the disease when infected with new sub-variants is comparable in severity to SARS. Nevertheless, the specialist recalled that even SARS can lead to complications and end with pneumonia.

“Change in climate, time zones often led to an increase in the body's vulnerability to various infectious agents. Therefore, now, in the holiday season, we must still take care of our HEALTH and the health of others. it is recommended to use a mask at the first sign of indisposition, ”Pshenichnaya advised. She did not see the need to renew restrictions at the federal level.

The incidence rate in Russia has been declining since February. By June, the daily number of detected cases had reached its lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic.

After that, Rospotrebnadzor removed all coronavirus restrictions, but soon the incidence began to grow again. The department explained this by the spread of more contagious types of "omicron", which occur in a mild form. In the week of July 18-24, the incidence rate per 100,000 people increased by 48.9%, while the hospitalization rate decreased by 5.3%. Over the past 24 hours, more than 9 thousand new cases of infection have been detected while testing 112 thousand people - this is the maximum since April 20.
