In Oxford called a way to increase immunity to COVID different vaccines

The combination of ASTRAZENECA and Pfizer vaccines produces a stronger immune response than either of the two drugs alone. The authors of the study stated,

The simultaneous use of vaccines manufactured by AstraZeneca and Pfizer allows for greater immunity to CORONAVIRUS. This was reported by researchers from the University of Oxford, reports BLOOMBERG. The preprint of the study was published in the prestigious medical journal Lancet.

Scientists are looking for different ways to increase the effectiveness and coverage of vaccination in the face of vaccine shortages. This is especially true for low-income countries. The ability to “mix” medicines from different manufacturers could help these countries deal with vaccine shortages.

The Oxford researchers tried injections of AstraZeneca and Pfizer drugs in different orders and at different intervals. In the end, they concluded that the first injection of the vaccine from AstraZeneca and the second from Pfizer, given four weeks apart, produced the largest immune response. The reverse sequence of mixing the two vaccines showed a somewhat worse result.

St. Petersburg will develop a combined flu and covid-19 vaccine Society

At the same time, the mixed use of two different vaccines, regardless of sequence, gives more antibodies to coronavirus than two doses of AstraZeneca. The use of first AstraZeneca, and then Pfizer led to the best development of cellular immunity. The highest level of antibodies in the body was achieved with two doses of Pfizer.

Oxford University professor Matthew Snape, who led the trial series, said the results of the study will help more flexible use of drugs in regions where this is needed.

In addition, the authors of the study concluded that a ten-month interval between two doses of AstraZeneca increased the effectiveness of the vaccine. The experiment involved 830 volunteers aged 50 and older.

According to Snape, scientists injected them only with the original vaccine against the basic "Wuhan" strain of coronavirus. “Further studies of combining drugs optimized for other strains may be useful in the future when planning a winter vaccination campaign,” said the professor. He added that in the next step, scientists will combine Moderna and Novavax vaccines.

AstraZeneca Begins Trial of South African COVID-19 Vaccine Society

Bloomberg notes that in May, studies showed an increase in side effects as a result of mixing AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines - headaches, chronic fatigue. However, the results of new tests have shown that these reactions do not last long.

At the end of last year, trials of the combined use of AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines began. Research is being done to improve immune response and optimize coronavirus vaccination schedules.
