This was told to RBC by a virologist, professor of Moscow State University, DOCTOR of Biological Sciences Alexei Agranovsky.

The history of this epidemic is too short to draw definitive conclusions, but that is the impression. covid -19 infection can affect the vessels (this is just a well-known phenomenon), including the eye vessels, causing micro-clots and symptoms of spots [before the eyes] and blurred vision. This phenomenon deserves careful study, but, alas, such news cannot be recognized as unexpected, ”said Agranovsky.

According to Sergei Voznesensky, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at RUDN University, covid-19 can affect nerve cells. “No one can absolutely exclude the fact that some elements of the visual analyzer will be affected during a coronavirus infection,” Voznesensky said. Also, with any serious infectious disease, an infectious syndrome occurs, which is manifested by headaches, fever, which can lead to a decrease in visual acuity. “The third point is that in severe cases, when we have thrombosis during a coronavirus infection, it can be anywhere – both at the level of the heart and at the level of the lungs. Where blood clots form, the functional activity of this system [organs] or this organ will also decrease,” the scientist explained.

Earlier, Evgeny Timakov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, infectious disease specialist, vaccinologist, pediatrician, chief physician of the Leader of Medicine medical center, on the air of Vesti FM, recommended that those who had COVID-19 immediately consult a doctor if spots appear before their eyes due to the risk of retinal vascular thrombosis. “If some incomprehensible spots appear before the eyes, there are a lot of retinal vascular thrombosis after a coronavirus infection, when a person does not perceive them, does not understand that microtrombic is sitting there.
