In Moscow, during a quarrel, scientist Andrey Botikov, one of the creators of the Sputnik V CORONAVIRUS vaccine, was killed, a source in the Ministry of Internal Affairs told RBC and confirmed an interlocutor in the territorial police department. Earlier, RIA Novosti reported about the murder of Botikov, citing a source.
According to a RBC source, the murder occurred during a quarrel with Botikov's guest. He strangled the scientist. The murder took place in Botikov's apartment on Rogova Street in northwest Moscow.
Yulia Ivanova, senior assistant to the HEAD of the capital's head office of the Investigative Committee, told RIA Novosti that "a 29-year-old young man quarreled with the owner and strangled him with a belt." He was arrested and during interrogation admitted his guilt. According to the Investigative Committee, the detainee was previously prosecuted for a serious crime.

Botikov worked as a senior researcher at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. By August 2020, it was this scientific institution that developed the Sputnik V vaccine against covid-19 , which became one of the main ones in RUSSIA. Botikov is a co-author of a patent for a vaccine. He was among those scientists who received an award from President Vladimir Putin for creating the drug. In June 2021, his name was mentioned in the decree of Vladimir Putin on the award, he was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.
