Academician announced the need to vaccinate 80% of Russians because of the "delta" strain

With the spread of the "delta" version of the CORONAVIRUS, more than 80% of the population must be vaccinated. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by a virologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, HEAD of the laboratory of bionanotechnology, microbiology and virology at NSU Sergey Netesov.

He measured that the Wuhan variant of covid-19 has a reproductive number (the number of people who will be infected by one sick person) is 2.5-3, and the Indian variant of the virus is 5-6 compared to the influenza virus (from 1 to 1.5) .

“Therefore, in order to achieve population immunity in relation to the Delta variant, more than 80% of the population must be vaccinated,” Netesov believes.

According to him, if the vaccination is delayed “for two or three years”, the virus will overtake the vaccines.
