According to information from deputy Yuri Gaiduk, the pig population in Transbaikalia has declined by 15.5% due to economic factors and outbreaks of diseases such as pasteurellosis, which has also led to a 20% decline in sheep numbers. Competition between regions remains significant: although Transbaikalia was the leader in cattle production in 2022 , this position has been taken over by Buryatia, which has developed infrastructure and pastures, contributing to increased meat production.

However, contrary to expectations, the increase in cattle numbers has not led to a decrease in meat prices ; on the contrary, an increase in horse meat and beef prices has been observed. This may depend on a variety of factors, including feed and transportation costs. The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to provide further information on the current meat market situation, which will help understand the causes of price fluctuations.

Thus, despite leading the Far Eastern Federal District in cattle numbers, Buryatia faces serious challenges in its agricultural sector.
