it is interesting to note that MEAT consumption varies significantly across the world. For example, in Argentina the largest amount of beef is consumed - 46.9 kg per capita, in Hong Kong - 55.2 kg of pork, and in Mongolia - 66.3 kg of lamb and goat meat. In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, poultry is the most common type of meat, with consumption of 74.7 kg per capita.
There are also countries in the world where the total per capita meat consumption is impressive. Hong Kong ranks first, with each person consuming an average of 202.1 kg of meat. It is followed by Iceland (180.9 kg), Macau (176.9 kg), the Republic of Nauru (156.2 kg) and the usa (151.4 kg). The top ten also includes Portugal, Australia , Spain, Antigua and Barbuda, and Samoa.
In the first half of 2023, pork production in the European Union fell by 8.6%. The most significant declines were recorded in Germany (-9.4%), Denmark (-21.5%) and Spain (-5.8%). This low supply level has resulted in record high prices in the domestic market. However, since July, pork prices began to decline as feed prices fell. This may lead to increased carcass weights in the second half of the year. Overall, pork production is expected to decline by 6.6% in 2023. Demand for pork in the European Union remains stable, but given the reduction in supply, per capita consumption is expected to decline.
