In a statement, the General Directorate of Animal HEALTH of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ordered the quarantine to be lifted on March 2 after testing for the absence of the HPAI virus on three poultry farms in Aguascalientes, with a population of 826,800 birds.
The organization emphasized that to check the absence of the virus, official veterinarians of the US-Mexico Commission for the Prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease and Other Exotic Animal Diseases took samples weekly for three weeks, which gave a negative result for HPAI. So, they indicated that after 28 days the state quarantine was lifted.
However, he added that the epidemiological investigation clearly demonstrated the interaction between domestic and wild birds, which are connected through bridge species, such as grackles, among which the avian influenza virus has been identified.
The authorities urged poultry farmers to remain vigilant and increase biosecurity measures in their poultry farms, both family and commercial.
