A drunk Lida resident stole a van for a ride and left it broken

In Lida, a drunk man stole a van for a ride and abandoned it in a neighboring district when the car broke down. This was reported to BELTA by the Department of Internal Affairs of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee.
According to the department, on April 17, a 36-year-old resident of Lida left his Iveco Daily service vehicle with the keys in the ignition near a house on Kamyshevaya Street. In the morning, the man could not find the van and contacted law enforcement officers. The vehicle was found near one of the villages in the Ivyevsky District. The man who stole the car was also identified. He was a 42-year-old resident of Lida.
According to the suspect, he was in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication . He saw a foreign car with keys and decided to take it for a ride. Already on the territory of the Ivyevsky district, the car broke down, and the man abandoned it. The actions of the defendant were qualified by the Lida district department of the Investigative Committee under the article "hijacking". The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to three years of imprisonment.
