
In 2014, a departmental target program for the development of horticulture was adopted in the Belgorod Region and, starting from 2015, is being implemented, within the framework of which new fruit plantations are planted annually. This made it possible to increase the area of intensive gardens from 1764 ha to 3908 ha over the past 5 years. Today they occupy more than half - 57% - of the total area of gardens. At the same time, young plantations that have not entered the fruiting period, due to the intensive replacement of traditional old gardens, account for 50%.
According to the data of the Territorial Body of the Federal State Statistics Service for the Belgorod Region, as of January 1, 2021, about 130 horticultural organizations and peasant (farm) enterprises operated in the region, the total area of fruit plantations in which was 6832 hectares, of which 6603 were seed orchards. ha, stone fruits - 229 ha.
In 2021, another 523.6 hectares were planted, including 228.8 hectares of intensive orchards, 192.1 hectares of walnut plantations, 6.0 hectares of berry shrub plantations and 96.7 hectares of fruit and berry nurseries. 
 The gross harvest of fruit and berry products in the organized sector in the current year under the state program was projected at 29.8 thousand tons. At the end of the season, the harvest of fruits and berries amounted to almost 32.1 thousand tons, which is a quarter more than in 2020, when 23.9 thousand tons were harvested.
The actual yield of fruit and berry products in the organized sector in the current year amounted to 123.8 q/ha.
In 2022, it is planned to plant at least 500 hectares of young orchards and collect at least 33.1 thousand tons of fruits and berries.
