The Chinese Embassy in the United States believes that the new US intelligence report on the origin of the coronavirus is scientifically unconvincing. The statement of the Chinese diplomatic mission is published on its website.
“Finding out the origin [of the virus] is a matter of science; [The solution] of this issue should and can only be left to scientists, and not to intelligence experts,” the diplomats said.
Beijing denied accusations of obstructing the investigation into the causes of the pandemic and withholding information from the international community. On December 27, 2019, the city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus was first detected, reported cases of the disease, and on December 31, CHINA had already notified the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) of cases of pneumonia of unknown origin, the embassy said. In the future, China interacted "fully openly and transparently" with the WHO, including when the organization's experts came to China, they noted.
The US report showed that the American side is prone to political manipulation, but the United States is going the wrong way, the embassy said. Intelligence bases its conclusions on the "presumption of guilt" of the PRC, the purpose of this is to shift the blame on China, an attempt to make it a "scapegoat". At the same time, the United States is evading establishing the causes of the appearance of the coronavirus in itself.
Beijing, diplomats said, advocates only a scientific approach and a comprehensive study of the causes of the pandemic.
“We are against political manipulation, the presumption of guilt and blaming others,” the embassy stressed.
