The average hog price in the Vietnamese market fell to 53,000 won per kg ($2.31 per kg) last month due to supply chain disruptions as the COVID-19 crisis affects the country's food sector.

“Farmers cannot sell pigs, logistics are difficult and most pig farms are closed. Even so, the price of pork in the supermarket is very high and not hard to find,” commented Paul A. Anderson, General Manager Southeast Asia - International Sales Manager at Genesus Inc in his latest market review.

Major feed companies such as CP, GREENFEED, De Heus, CJ Vina Agri, GUYOMARC'H - VN, Hoa Phat Dong Nai, Kyodo Sojitz simultaneously announced an increase in animal feed prices, which will keep pork prices high in the coming months.

At the same time, African swine fever is still present in many provinces of the country. In the first 6 months of 2021, African swine fever occurred on 1,152 farms in 225 districts in 45 provinces and cities, according to a source from the Department of Animal Health. The number of slaughtered pigs in the first half of the year was 62,188 heads.
