According to Olymel management, the hog slaughtering capacity has now been reduced from 140,000 to 81,000 heads per week, including three Olymel plants in Saint-Esprit (Lanaudière), Jamacic (Maurisi) and Ange-Gardien (Monterégie West).

The Canadian Pork Council said the closure will have a significant impact on Canadian pork production and that the organization will work with processors and partners to find solutions.
