Weekly inflation slowed to 0.1%

At the same time, prices for fruits and vegetables decreased by 0.6%. Including cucumbers fell in price by an average of 4.8%, white cabbage - by 1.1%, onions - by 0.4%, tomatoes - by 0.2%. The statistical agency also noted a decrease in prices for pork, eggs , buckwheat and pasta by 0.3%.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, speaking with a report on the work of the government in the State Duma, expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the fight against inflation, despite the constant attention to this problem from the Cabinet of Ministers. “Some aspects always remain under the close supervision of the government, we are constantly working on them, but not all the results achieved satisfy us,” Mishustin said. He emphasized that one of the main challenges of last year was inflation . The Prime Minister assured that the Cabinet of Ministers took the necessary measures and carefully monitored the situation, since the level of real incomes of Russians depends on this. He emphasized that despite the fact that annual inflation exceeded target values, thanks to cooperation with the Bank of RUSSIA, it was possible to slow it down to 7.4%.

In mid-March, Andrei Gangan, Deputy DIRECTOR of the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Department, warned about the possible achievement of maximum annual inflation values in the second quarter of 2024 . He explained that this is due to base effects, since monthly indicators were low in the spring of last year, and therefore year-on-year inflation may be slightly higher than the current level. At the same time, Gangan noted that the annual inflation indicator in conditions of volatility may not be very informative. Current inflation trends are in line with the central bank's baseline forecast, and although the pace of price growth has slowed since peaking in the fall, it is still above target.
